PROJECT
TPA were instructed by Manorwood Consultancy, J. Forde, G. Forde, S. Forde and E. Forde to assess the transport planning and highway engineering implications of a residential scheme which would replace an existing builder’s yard. The development site is located along the southern side of Main Road in Curbridge, near Witney in Oxfordshire and will provide 20 dwellings along with 110 cycle parking spaces and 40 car parking spaces. All of the dwellings will be provided in an EV charging point.
The site benefits from direct access to a regular bus service, serving the surrounding towns, rail station and facilities. In addition, a network of footways and cycleways provides connections throughout the local area.
APPROACH
We provided Masterplanning and design advice concerning the site layout to ensure a 20mph speed limit could be maintained throughout the site. The site access required a redesign to ensure suitability, with visibility splays and swept paths drawings prepared in support of this.
The Transport Statement demonstrated that the proposals are located in a sustainable location, could provide access for all modes and would not have a detrimental impact on the local highway network in terms of operational capacity.
OUTCOME
The planning application was refused at committee in March 2023, although there were no highways or transport reasons for the proposed development. An appeal was lodged in March 2023.
