PROJECT

We were instructed by Acrefield Land Ltd to support a planning application for the redevelopment of the site to provide a coffee shop with drive through, associated parking, plant and refuse facility.

APPROACH

A pre-application consultation was undertaken with the planning and highway authorities. The comments provided were generally supportive, in regard to the principle of the development in highways terms including internal layout, traffic generation, linked trip making, accidental data assessment and circulation.

The site is located in Andover and benefits from good accessibility by all modes of transport, including cycle and buses. There were no existing road safety issues identified in the immediate vicinity at the time of submission.

Our team worked to address matters related to parking and traffic at the drive-thru facility. We demonstrated that the proposed parking provision was adequate and would not result in adverse impact on the other units operation adjacent to the site.

We demonstrated that queuing at the drive-thru during the busiest peak periods could be accommodated within the proposed dedicated lane, with no adverse impact on the access, which is shared with an adjacent petrol filling station. Vehicle swept path analysis and pedestrian safety was also addressed.

OUTCOME

A planning application was submitted, supported by our Transport Statement and subsequent Technical Notes. Planning permission was granted with no objections from the Local Highway Authority.
