PROJECT

We were instructed by Cambridge Investment Partnership to support a planning application the redevelopment of an existing Community Centre, providing an improved Community Hub alongside a residential development for 78 dwellings. Cambridge Investment Partnership is a joint venture between Cambridge City Council and Hill Residential to deliver affordable housing across the City.

APPROACH

We initially provided feasibility advice with regards to the potential access opportunities to the site from the surrounding network including a review of the suitability of the existing access arrangement that supported the operation of the community centre.

Following this, we prepared a Transport Assessment, with accompanying drawings, and Framework Travel Plan to support the planning application. The work demonstrated that the development could be accommodated within the local transport network safety and without an impact. As part of the proposals, we designed an upgrade to an existing zebra crossing to a parallel crossing to support connections on foot and by cycle into and out of the site.

Following submission of the planning application, we responded to comments from the Highway Authority including updated modelling to address cumulative impact concerns. Subsequently, officers raised no objection to the development.

OUTCOME

The scheme was granted planning permission in 2020.
