PROJECT

This project was for a single storey extension to Stretford Grammar School for an area of 740 sq.m. This would provide capacity for an extra 160 pupils to a total of 1,060 pupils. The school is located at the end of Granby Road in Stretford.

APPROACH

We produced a Transport Statement and Travel Plan to support the development. An increase in four car parking spaces was provided to accommodate the increase in staff parking associated with the development.

The trip attraction was calculated using the TRICS database for the proposed increase in pupil numbers, which demonstrated that there would be a relative small increase in vehicle trips to and from the site. It was therefore concluded that the predicted impact would not be severe.

A Car Park Management Strategy was produced to ensure that refuse vehicles could access the site on collection days.

The Travel Plan included using a past survey of pupils and staff and includes targets of a net 14% reduction in pupil car trips and 10% net reduction in staff car trips of single occupancy in five years.

OUTCOME

The scheme was granted planning permission.
