PROJECT

We were commissioned by the Harris Federation to provide transport planning and highway engineering consultancy services for the redevelopment of a container storage yard, on approximately 5.8 hectares of land located on Mayflower Road, Chafford Hundred, Thurrock.

The proposed development comprised a five form entry primary school and day nursery, providing 1,050 pupil placements with 163 staff members at full occupancy. The proposal also included associated transport and parking infrastructure, comprising the construction of a new access road from Mayflower Road to the north.

APPROACH

We developed a close working relationship with the local highway authority to derive a package of mitigation measures including the funding of bus services and the introduction of local parking restrictions.

We also developed a close working relationship with the school in order to agree staggered start and finish times to mitigate transport impact, develop transport provision, car parking management plan and servicing solutions, and working in tandem with the developer to develop construction management solutions. This also allowed for temporary school accommodation on site during construction.

OUTCOME

Planning Permission granted and construction completed.
