PROJECT

We were instructed by Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (GCCC) to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to provide transport planning services in support of a planning application for a new 20,000 all-seater stadium, including corporate hospitality, conference and restaurant facilities, the construction of residential accommodation and ancillary uses including a club office, shop, sports club, media centre and parking.

APPROACH

After supporting the development through the course of the planning application, we were appointed as the Travel Plan Coordinator for the residential element of the scheme, which comprises 147 dwellings. Since beginning the role in 2016, we have overseen the delivery of the Travel Plan in accordance with the Section 106 agreement; from liaising with local public transport operators and issuing regular resident Travel Plan newsletters through to the implementation of measures, including a free bike maintenance session for residents.

To ensure the Travel Plan continues to be effective, we have undertaken regular monitoring of resident travel behaviour allowing us to understand current barriers to sustainable travel and what incentives would encourage residents to travel more sustainably.

OUTCOME

Following implementation of the Travel Plan, single occupancy car travel amongst residents has been observed to decrease and the use of sustainable modes, including public transport and walking, has increased – a trend that we hope will continue for many years to come.
