PROJECT

Demolition of existing structure (former public house) and erection of a purpose built student accommodation building comprising 62 units and associated landscaping and highway works on Cambridge Street in the university quarter of Manchester.

APPROACH

We produced a Transport Statement and Travel Plan to support this car-free development. The Transport Statement set out the sustainable location of the site in the University Quarter of Manchester. Multi-modal trip generations were calculated for the proposed student accommodation with low numbers of vehicle trip generations. It was concluded that the impact on the highway network would not be severe.

The Highways response to the application required a disabled parking space and a place for this was identified on-street. A student management plan was required to manage student drop-offs at the start of the academic year.

OUTCOME

Planning consent was granted and the site is expected to accommodate students in September 2022.
